Re: West Covina CA

The church you mentioned on San Bernardino Road was a McDaniel's from the 1940's. Thanks! I wouldn't have come up with that in a million years. I'm not sure about the Safeway being there at Puente, as my entire dealt with buildings that I know still exist today (with the exception of the former Alp...

Re: West Covina CA

I guess technically this would be West Covina-adjacent, but as the sites are pretty much on the borderline I'm going to add it to this thread. I'm hoping someone will be able to fill in the blanks for me on two locations. 1) There was formerly a Safeway on the southwest corner of Sunset and Puente (...

Re: Long's Drugs being bought by CVS and will disappear by 2009

The Eastland West Covina Longs has been there since Hirams (later Lucky, now Albertsons-Savon) first opened. If it does convert to CVS next year, it will be the third CVS store in West Covina. The other two are: - Azusa and Puente , first built to be a Rite Aid, then quickly sold to Savon, which wa...

Re: West Covina CA

The original tenant of the Glendora / Vine site was a rather bland Shopping Bag. It was torn down to build the Ralphs Shopping Center. Does anyone remember Flakey Jakes at the Glendora / Vine site? Was similar to Fuddruckers. Oh, yes! Similar, but (for me, anyway) much, much better. Their brownies ...

Re:

Does anybody know the history behind this location: Glendora and Vine (Hong Kong Market) luckysaver This was a Ralphs market for most of the 80s and closed sometime in the 90's. Next door was a Thrifty that closed not long after the market closed. And now Hong Kong Market has closed. The postman he...

Britt's Department Store

Tapping into the incredible store of knowledge here to see if someone can tell me if the Britt's in LA (south side of street, just east of Fairfax) was on 3rd or Beverly.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can remember.

Re: Musicland/Defunct Record Store Chains Other Than Tower

Don't know if they existed anywhere but southern California, but I fondly remember the Wallach's Music City chain, listening booths and all.

Re: West Covina's Country Club Center

I can't remember when Trader Joe's, which took over the old Pronto Market location, closed, but if I remember correctly, they got into some kind of dispute with the city about something (sorry I'm so hazy on the details), and left as a result.

Definitely not Japanese. He was the next-door neighbor of someone I used to work with, and he was a scary guy.
