Re: Publix Markets with "wings" in Florida

Publix did have food world stores in Florida. I think they closed them in the early to mid 80's if I remember correctly. They used the Food World brand as second private label on bread and I think a few other Items for a long time after they closed the stores. The packaging looked almost exactly lik...

Former Winn Dixie now Aldi in Rockledge, FL

This was a Winn Dixie in Rockledge, Florida that closed recently. Aldi took over about a third of the former Winn Dixie Space.

Re: Cheraw, SC

I thought possibly Winn Dixie, I have seen some older stores in Florida that have corner brick work like this store, but the corrugated metal over the walkway was different. I am from south Florida and not familiar with the local Carolina chains. These stores were a couple of blocks from a well kept...

Cheraw, SC

While driving through South Carolina recently I found these 2 buildings in Cheraw, SC. One was an centennial style A&P (my favorite A&P). The second was across the street from the A&P and looked like it was a grocery in a former life, but i'm not sure what. Anybody have any suggestions? ...

Re: Old Winn Dixie(?) in Key West FL

Hi Edric & Steve, I think you are correct about this store being a Pantry Pride. I didn't think about them at first since the the Pantry Pride that I've dealt with didn't look much like this one and the building kind of reminded me of an old old Winn Dixie /Kwik Check that I rember from way back...

Re: Old Winn Dixie(?) in Key West FL

I didn't even think about A&P Pantry Pride or Grand Union, although I know that Pantry Pride was a strong player in the Keys. The store is located on the east end of the Island near the Key West High School and near older residential neighborhoods, not on the main drag. We went by Publix, Winn D...

Old Winn Dixie(?) in Key West FL

While working in Key West, FL recently I ran across an Advance Auto Parts Store, (1835 Flagler Avenue Key West, FL 33040 ), That I am sure was an old grocery, I think Winn Dixie. Other than paint and the front plate glass windows being covered over the building looks to be original. Inside the store...

Re: Lawsuit Threat

This is great, "I assure you that I meant no disrespect to your family. I'm sure that they were very good and hardworking men who deserve my respect, and they have it. Men from that era were members of a generation that fought its battles honorably, rather than by threatening to sue anyone who ...

Goodings

From what I remember, the family that ran Goodings also had a catering business, that made more money with less headaches than the stores did, so they sold most of the stores to Winn Dixie. Unfortunatly the WD/Goodings match was not a good one. WD merged some stores and converted other locations int...

We had a Woolco in the Martin Square Mall in Stuart, FL when the mall openned in the early 80's. The Woolco only stayed open for a year or so (if that long) before it closed and sat vacant for a long time. Kmart eventualy took over that space. I think its a Sears Essentials now. The rest of the mall...

I think that the mall you are thinking of is the old Cross County Mall on the corner of Military Trail and Okeechobee Rd. (Palm Beach Lakes T's into Okeechobee just east of the mall). It is now a strip mall. The Winn Dixie that was in a small outparcel moved into the former Kmart space and Office De...

Steve, you're right it was Food World. They had one in Leesburg, FL in the early 80's. It seemed like a cross between a Publix and a upscale Win Dixie. When I worked for Publix, we used to carry Food World bread as a cheap alternative to the Publix bread. I remember reading in the Publix News that t...

Here is a link to photos of the former A&P buildings in Fort Pierce, FL. The first two pics are of the orignal location on Orange Ave in downtown. It was a House of Meats store for several years and has been vacant for the last three or four years. The second two pics are of the store just off o...

The last one I Know of was in Fort Pierce. It closed in the early 90's or late 80's. I used to call on it when I worked for a food broker. The store opened in the 60's and was never remodeled. It still had all the original shelving and refridgeration when it closed. It was like stepping back in time...
