Re: Just to clarify the "Pavilions Place" name

Current Vons ads as of last week continued to show a "Pavilions Value Plus'' card. I always thought Pavilions Place were the small express store versions of Pavilions. The Sherman Oaks store mentioned in this thread (which I've been to late last year) is a rebadged Vons - not even upscale. The ...

Re: Temple City Former Albertson's

Super A Foods closed their Pico Rivera store back in Summer 09, which also happens to be on Rosemead Blvd (State Hwy 19) (coincidence?). Pico store used to be Greatway.

Re: ROWLAND HEIGHTS CA

Additional notes on the Nogales/Colima corner supermarkets: - TS Emporium (Tak Shing Hong) actually moved to the Ole's/Builders Emporium building from the Big Lots Center, now occupied by another Chinese grocer, AAA Farmers Market . TSH opened this branch next to Big Lots as the Chinese/Korean invas...

Re: ROWLAND HEIGHTS CA

Update on Nogales/Colima supermarkets. Historically, this part of Rowland Heights was its own community called Otterbein and much of the shopping was developed between 1966-67. - 99Cents Only : first opened as Albertsons , circa 1966. 1982: Old World Antique Mall (Albertsons opened stores on Colima/...

Re: 1990's Ralphs Time Capsule: Huntington Beach, CA

This was the Alpha Beta late 1980's decor package just before American Stores sold off the chain to Yucaipa/Food4Less. The new King Ranch #3 in Covina (425 S Citrus, former AB and Ralphs 623) did an interior remodel but they kept the lettering and style. This is the store that moved from 150 9th Str...

Re: Vons stores with old interiors

La Canada Flintridge Vons (red-white) is another SoCal store that retained the old interior. All other stores that I've been to in the San Gabriel Valley have the Lifestyle package.

Re: Seessel's

When Albertsons Inc acquired Seessel's (10 locations in Tennessee), they quietly renamed it "Seessel's By Albertsons" and it was part of the Southeast region. The SuperOne and Bruno's outlets that was part of the purchase of Seessel Holdings Inc were rebranded as Albertsons or Albertsons-O...

Bullocks West Covina has quickly transformed into a Best Buy store that will open this Fall.
Best Buy is moving from the "The Lakes" since that complex opened.

Re: CLAREMONT CA--Albertsons site closing

Site still vacant today. Even Claremont Toyota is in a bit of a decline as well. When I went inside the store before it closed, it had the 1998 Lucky decor package. Actually, that part of Claremont is not the best area for a store like Albertsons despite facing the 10 Freeway. The Pomona city limits...

Re: ALPHA BETA advertising campaigns

Dean, I may be wrong but I think certain S-AB products may have been briefly distributed by LKS for a short time. I also had a Harvest Day tub from LKS products. For example, many Albertsons products had their labels recently reprinted from "Albertsons Inc Boise ID" to "Supervalu Inc ...

Re: ALPHA BETA advertising campaigns

The Skaggs-AB brand was kept by American Stores until after 1988. I had a magarine tub (1989) and it said "Distributed by LKS Products". LKS was the distributing arm of the Lucky division of American Stores.

Re: Van de Kamp's Restaurant Sites

With regards to the Van De Kamp's brand store products when the VDK company split into pieces many years ago: The bakery brand is owned by Kroger through the Ralphs Grocery Company and the phantom "Alpha Beta Company" subsidiaries - if you look at the bread bag or any other VDK brand item ...

Re: Van de Kamp's Restaurant Sites

Dean, I just did a quick lookup on the Google news archive and found that in 1957, VDK's retail division operated a chain of retail baked goods stores/outlets (224 units), 1 drive-in restaurant (stores and drive-in restaurants unidentified), and 4 coffee shops. The drive in was said to be at the his...

Re: Van de Kamp's Restaurant Sites

Dean, I saw the Glassell Park campus on the corner of Fletcher and San Fernando Road. LA City College, which owns the site calls it the "Van De Kampus" and is a satellite of the main campus in East Hollywood. They gutted the inside but rehabilitating the exterior. It was featured in as par...
