1666 Rosecrans was indeed a Vons, but closed just over a year ago. Vacant. Clairemont Quad Shopping Center: hard to track this down, It's now Clairemont Village Shopping Center (3015 Clairemont Drive). Looks like a store named Kiel's, a 2-store grocery chain. 3994 Clairemont Mesa Drive: the center i...

Coronado... so that's what's next to the VONS store... I wonder if the A&P and Safeway were ever open at the same time? Store currently empty, don't know anything of the tenancy. Guessing it was a 40's style store by the size and architecture. (attached) La Jolla: probably demolished, that side ...

The Logan & Euclid location is gone, though there's a sizable parking lot nearby that seems out of place with the current businesses... The Lakeside location could have been on one of two street corners, one has the Lakeside Plaza, and then there's a large grassy parcel around a gas station. The...

According to Wikipedia, The script logo started in 1994. My experience with the A&P company wasn't until 1997 (Farmer Jack) and by that time, of course, the training VHS tapes had that logo.

Are you sure it closed before the Vons takeover? I just looked at Google Maps, and that parcel is still labeled as "Vons Shopping Center".

Re: SeaTac Mall/Commons at Federal Way

The curlicue L was still in use at a few locations at that point; I'm not sure when they switched the the simplified cursive L, but I know none of the former F&N/Lipman's/Crescent locations (Valley River Mall in Eugene, Lloyd Center, Jantzen Beach and Corvallis) ever had it, so that would put t...

That commercial is righteously funky!

It appears the lower trim is the same color as the lighted upper trim.

I also seem to remember this logo with red letters, was that when HOTW was all on one line, or just a variation?

My favorite BR logo was the one using 'old US cowboy west' style block letters. That went out, what, 25 years ago? http://www.baskinrobbins.com/About/OurHistory.aspx Scroll down towards the bottom of BR's history page. :) The "circus" logo was designed in 1959 and was BR's longest-standin...

History in Color: Grand Grocery, Lincoln, NE 1942

The Denver Post has an amazing set of color photos from the Depression era to early WWII in the US (1939-1943). Included is a shot of a Grand Grocery in Lincoln Nebraska in 1942. http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2010/07/26/captured-america-in-color-from-1939-1943/2363/ http://denverpost.slidesho...
