Re: Possible former Acme

UPDATE: I just found out there was a Shop N Bag in this center at one time, which closed around the same time the Hoyts opened. It seems doubtful Shop N Bag was the original tenant though. There was originally a Loehmann's on the Hoyts site, and considering the other early Loehmann's in Greater Phil...

Re: Possible former Food Fair

The Rite Aid has recently relocated across the street. Perhaps some unique Grants traces that had been otherwise hidden for the last 35+ years will be uncovered during construction performed for the next tenant of this half, whoever it may be?

Possible former Food Fair/Pantry Pride (also Stop & Shop?)

What did the HomeGoods in Bedford, New Hampshire used to be? It was in a small supermarket-sized space next to a former JM Fields, which was a Caldor in the 90's. I have no idea what's on this site today though. This Caldor had the 1992 Caldor logo, and the HomeGoods chain started in 1992, which yet...

Re: When was this Safeway in DC built?

Thanks! I just realized though that unfortunately I neglected to specify the CVS in question is actually behind the A&P/Super Fresh/Fresh & Green's, not behind the Safeway. Though it would be very unlikely for a genuine Centennial A&P to have been replaced by another one as early as 1962...

When was this Safeway in DC built?

What's the history of the Safeway at 4865 MacArthur Blvd in Northwest DC? Could it have opened around 1962, around the same time as the nearby A&P which was more recently a Super Fresh but now is a Fresh & Green, also around the same time as the Lord & Taylor in DC? The store now has the...

Re: Could these two stores actually be the same one?

Seems like this Acme might have been remodeled in 1968, in response to the more modern A&P (with a parking lot) opening at 5th and Pine that year. Considering the Temple photo of this Acme was taken in 1982, maybe the Acme closed around that time, because the A&P became a Super Fresh in 1982...

Re: Was this a Safeway?

Could the Safeway/AppleTree in Humble (now a Gold's Gym as of fairly recently) have been nothing in between the closing of AppleTree and the opening of Gold's Gym? Here's a real estate flyer about the property: http://www.loopnet.com/Attachments/8/D/2/8D2E5EA3-3ADC-475A-B180-3ED8C655F0EA.pdf Food Fa...

Re: Was this a Safeway?

Would all Safeway signs as seen in Tyler have had the logo frame in a diamond shape? There's a Safeway/AppleTree in Houston that became a Food Town, and still uses what was clearly the original Safeway signpost from 1974, but the logo frame is a plain rectangle. Maybe that was a replacement for the ...

Re: Was this a Safeway?

Is or was H-E-B in Tyler? Could this have been one after Safeway? Many Houston-area Safeway AppleTree stores were H-E-B Pantry Foods before being reincarnated as more upscale H-E-Bs, which often meant relocation, or demolition and reconstruction for these stores, erasing any Safeway characteristics,...

Re: When did this Stop & Shop open, and when did it close?

UPDATE: I just found out via the website HistoricAerials.com that the Bradlees opened no later than 1969, but the Stop & Shop (and what looks like it may have been a MediMart drugstore and then a Walgreens which has since relocated) was added in an expansion sometime between 1971 and 1978. This ...

When did this Stop & Shop open, and when did it close?

I'm wondering about what must have been a Stop & Shop on Revere Beach Parkway in Chelsea, Massachusetts. It now is a Save-A-Lot and was next to a Bradlees, now a Home Depot. Articles about a former cinema in the shopping center confirm it indeed was a Stop & Shop. Might it have closed at the...

Was this a Safeway?

The former Save-A-Lot at 2317 West Erwin Street in Tyler, Texas (which closed as Save-A-Lot in late 2011) has a street sign pole in front of it that looks like an upside-down letter U, with the "curve" in the U being square. Certain Safeway stores from the 60's in the South had a frame lik...

Re: Early Kmart closures (PRE-1994)

I was absolutely SHOCKED to learn recently that the former Grant City in Paulsboro, NJ became a Kmart (which had to have been in 1976 or 1977) but apparently the store closed sometime well before 1984 (no I did NOT mean 1994 here), because it was later a King's store bought by Ames that year. And th...

Re: Big Lots

You know what, I am so embarrassed I had forgotten about a Centennial A&P to Big Lots conversion: in Phillipsburg NJ. This older shopping center has been converted to offices except for the Big Lots and a Blimpie next door, so I forgot about the retail there. The Big Lots sign is awfully tiny th...

Re: Big Lots

I'm not sure about this, but to answer someone else's question from long ago, I doubt any Centennial A&Ps ended up as Big Lots. Most of them were just a little bit too small. Most A&P buildings from the 70's would be big enough though, just about the perfect size. There were some Centennials...
