3 Ralphs Stores on Whittier Blvd

I think this is where Chad or David splits the topic!

The Sorenson / Whittier Ralphs was formerly an Alpha Beta, which started off Pickering, then moved to Hadley, then to the final spot on Whittier.

The Ralphs at the quad was an original build in the late 80s when the original Quad was heavily damaged in the quake of 87. There used to be a Vons at this site. The Ralphs had moved from the smaller location across the street that at one point was a Market Basket.

Finally, I think the Ralphs off Whittier / Covina was always there.

Jeff,

Just a reminder - Colima, not Covina.

The old Market Basket (the exterior is a giveaway) - is currently Big Lots. Not sure if it was a Pic N Save.

The Trader Joe's on Whittier/Colima was an Alpha Beta.

And yes, back in 1999 during the Albertsons-American Stores divestiture as required by the FTC, Staters picked up the lion's share of the "giveaway" - 44 stores (43 Albertsons or Lucky and 1 parcel for a future store). FTC's website has a complete list of all Albertsons/Lucky stores that went to Stater Bros.

Yes, the old Market Basket did open as Pic N Sav, once Ralphs moved across the street. Pic had taken over the ENTIRE store. This was "news"...as it was the largest around...and I believe 24hr! Think it is only about 3/4s of the building now, correct?

Yes, TJs had originally been Alpha Beta. Yet, in between AB and TJ was LIQUOR PLAZA, which was ABs version of Safeway's Liquor Barn.

With the closure of the Hacienda Heights Ralphs (originally AB) (Colima & Hacienda Blvd), folks are cruising over Colima to the Ralphs @ Colima & Whittier.

at one point, PlayCo Toys moved in to a 1/3 of the building. Then a few years ago, Big Lots opened up part of the wall and moved a furniture department into the vacant PlayCo Toys.
