Yeah, that's pretty much it. They were based in Elkin NC, and had stores in the Triad area, and later Charlotte and Myrtle Beach. They may have been in other parts of the Carolinas and Virginia as well.

Their merchandise lines were focused on electronics, jewlery, and sporting goods. And Yer Humble Host worked there during two Christmas seasons in college.

It was the typical catalog showroom mix, featuring housewares, china, jewelry, toys, electronics, sporting goods, and seasonal merchandise.

They made it into Virginia (Charlottesville, Roanoke, Lynchburg and Hampton Roads had them, doubtful Richmond did), and closed in the mid-90's, like most of their competitors.

Brendle's also was in the Savannah, Georgia, area during the same time period. They purchased a locally-owned chain that carried the same types of merchandise. There were two stores in the original chain...one on Victory Drive, and the other on Abercorn Street near Oglethorpe Mall. They stayed in business as Brendle's for about five years. When the name of the original stores comes to our collective minds, I'll post it here.

It only took a week to remember! Brendle's opened in Savannah in the early 80's when it bougtht out the two Segall and Sons stores. Prior to the stores on Abercorn Street and East Victory Drive, Segall and Sons had a store just south of the intersection of West DeRenne Avenue, Bull Street, and White Bluff Road. This store had previously been an A&P, and Segall and Sons used the broken-pediment style A&P sign atop the pylon for their main signage. This building was mentioned in an A&P thread earlier.
