The article shares the history of the beginning...to the vacant years...to the attempt to revive.

What I found truly interesting was that I MAGNIN and JOSEPH MAGNIN had BOTH been anchors at one time. I was not familiar with JOSEPH MAGNIN.

The consolidation of I MAGNIN under Bullock's, Macy*s, etc. brought the chain to Palm Desert, and hence started the decline of the Fashion Plaza. This depicts how the consolidation of chains leads to the demise of centers...as the chains fade away...and leave their empty buildings.

I remember that mall. It was super dark inside and empty. Never had good stores. I magnin was in t he back of the mall.. sax was in the front. Both were small stores. You could also enter the hotel from the mall. It was originally a shiloh inn

And the other mall in Palm Springs, Palm Springs Mall, isn't doing too well either. Gottschalks died and Vons left, and now Rite-Aid and True Value are moving out. http://www.mydesert.com/article/2011022 ... tting-exit
