Great Photos.

I love this one in particular:

They just don't make signs like that anymore. Classic!

I'm amazed that sign is still standing, but very lucky for us, there are quite a few photos of that on the web. I wonder if that's the only time Safeway did that googie/space age sign..

Another shot of what I think is the Main Street marina in Winnipeg:

Bizarre looking gable:

I think this is what happened to said bizarre looking gable...

This looks like it's the Ellice marina (though the classic googie sign is not in view)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dann-/24787225/

Is this the bigger-looking Winnipeg marina with the 1960s photo in this thread?

In Calgary, a 1973 photo of the Queen visiting town, near a Safeway (with the classic circle S logo) at 16th and Centre Street North:

This downtown Safeway sign looks like its structure is of older vintage than the signs themselves:

NICE shot of the Banff "reverse marina" I talked about here:

(notice the recently redone front lettering, different from either the other recent photo, or the 1960s photo):

A marina store still active in the Regina, SK area. (wonder if it's the marina interior in the earlier photo)

1940s Safeway in Brandon, Manitoba on a postcard drawing...

Beautiful night shot of a marina Safeway in Saskatoon:

Here's an interior shot of that store from that same collection:

I THINK this store with a 1960s sign is in Vancouver:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/91077015@N00/221752731/

Here's what I think is a Saskatoon area store with possible marina arch (note the front that doesn't look particularly marina-era) and 1970s lettering:

Is this the 1960s sign from Vancouver (or at least I think so)?

Safeway sign (of possibly older vintage than current look) at Osborne Village in Winnipeg - that store reopened last year after original building was demolished, if I'm not mistaken...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/90736271@N00/143698199/

Safeway in Kenora, ON that is on a waterfront:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mystify/259360695/

Safeway in Red Deer, AB with interesting shapes (1990s build probably) and a Safeway sign font that I've only seen on Canadian stores:

Beautiful shot of the Burnaby high-arch marina.

A more modern, less striking store also in Burnaby:

That's not actually the original store. That's a temporary location Safeway occupied in between the demolition of their existing store and the completion of the new one. Cramped quarters at 15,000 square feet.

Here's a link to an article with a picture of the original Osborne Safeway.

I've actually shown that picture before in this thread...that's intriguing...from 1970s store, to mini-gable, to modern Safeway. I haven't seen very many examples of "temporary locations" in general during this sort of demolish-and-rebuild project.

I wasn't sure if this picture was posted yet. It's an unidentified location, but I think this is a Canadian Safeway;

Nice shot! I'm thinking that's the Ellice Avenue marina in Winnipeg, the one with the classic one-of-a-kind googlie sign (although the Main Street store in Winnipeg also has a teal "raised swept-arch" marina roof).

One of my all time favorite stores, the "reverse marina" Safeway in Banff, AB has a new shot up on Flickr:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/46103073@N00/265000155/

I wonder if the design was specifically comissioned to fit in with Banff's mountain landscape, as it is a pretty well known tourist town (and I was there in 1993, though I didn't pass by that store).

Here's an interior shot, albeit it doesn't show any of the ceiling:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/82871317@N00/112090421/

I think I've seen the sign from this photo before, but not the building:
http://travel.webshots.com/photo/118333 ... 6608yIApVU

A recent shot of the old school "needle through circle" Safeway sign at the 33rd Street marina in Saskatoon...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sheila_steele/207345642/

Note the very old Safeway lettering, as compared to the square S in circle signspace.

This assembly is very similar to the one at the former store in Kansas City, KS now serving as the Christ's Church of the Jesus Hour.

In sad news, the marina in Chilliwack that was posted earlier in the thread appears to have closed up:

http://flickr.com/photos/axwo/277045535/

Here's the photo from earlier, I am pretty sure this is the same store:

http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:g ... MG0129.jpg

This article talks about the new Safeway in Chilliwack's downtown, and the planned sale of the older location (on Main Street):
http://www.chilliwacktimes.com/issues06 ... 06nn3.html

This link mentions the address:
http://www.vec.ca/english/11/pharmacies-chilliwack.cfm
9299 Main Street Chilliwack, British Columbia
Here's a googlemaps overhead of that marina:
