A&P in Irving, TX

Around when did A&P enter/exit this area? Did they compete with Safeway? I am wondering about this store's history: http://www.flickr.com/photos/retailmania/4803266137/
I'm not sure about all of Texas, but I know A&P left East Texas by 1976. There was a non-centennial store in Longview that closed around that time. If A&P was anything like all the other companies in that area, they were served by the same warehouses that served Dallas, so I'd bet that was around the time they left there as well. And they definitely competed with Safeway. There are far more surviving Marina Safeways in Texas than there are Centennial A&Ps, and both were built during similar timeframes.
Strangely, Kroger has outlasted both but arrived last.
