Interesting Lowes Setup, Pittsboro NC

I was in Pittsboro, NC and went in a recently renovated Lowes Supermarket. It was surprising to find that all of the store shelving is low, maybe four feet high, - you can see from one end of the supermarket to the other. It was an odd feeling being able to see everyone in the store.
I wonder if this a new trend, or is Lowes just testing it?
They are going to need to stand out as there is a Harris Teeter about five miles to the East and there will be a Walmart Supercenter a few miles to the West.
