Buffalo North Suburbs Chain Grocery/Supermarket Locations, 1925-1960

This is a list of chain grocery addresses in certain northern Buffalo suburbs between 1925 and 1960, complied from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. It is generated through a live Google Spreadsheet so it reflects the latest information I have. You may view the list in the frame below or open it in a new window, which will give you more viewing options and the ability to download it or add it to your own Google Drive.

  • The Red & White stores, particularly in 1949, may be incomplete as they were not always listed as such in the city directory. This may also be true of Arrowhead stores.
  • Great Bear and B-Kwik were forerunners of the Tops Markets chain, as was the store run by Ferranti (and later Armand) Castellani (listed 1925-1942) and the Belmart store (listed 1960) on Hyde Park Boulevard–a partnership between Castellani and Bells Markets.
