Re: Canada Safeways

Yes, that would be the one. I wasn't aware that it had been granted historic landmark status.

Re: Canada Safeways

Former Marina Safeway in Vancouver; http://www.marketplaceiga.com/grocery-stores/vancouver-84.aspx When I was up in Vancouver earlier this year, I seem to recall passing by at least one Marina Safeway that was still a Safeway (and looked like a fairly well-preserved Marina from the outside as well....

Re: Sprouse Reitz

I recall that there were a number of these stores in rural New Mexico as well. I can't say for sure how many, but presumably enough that they ran TV ads on the Albuquerque TV channels. The only one I can definitely confirm the existence of was in Hatch (I think Espanola had one as well, but I can't ...

Re: 7-Eleven Stores (1980-Prior)

Anyone got any idea if this particular 7-Eleven corresponds to any known styles? I'm guessing it was a conversion of an existing gas station, but there's a possibility it might be an older style as well.

Re: Safeway's Early Years (in Portland, Oregon)

I don't know about Portland, but mid-to-late 1920s papers from Kirkland WA had ads for Skaggs United Stores. In the mid 30s it looks like those were most likely replaced by Pay'n Takit, but I'm not sure when the Safeway name itself started being used here.

Re: Fred Meyer gas stations signage

I am not aware of any QFCs selling gas around here, and I suspect that most of the locations I know of wouldn't have the parking lot space for a gas station anyway. There's also the fact that such things tend to run into legal hurdles around here (Costco got approval from the City of Kirkland about ...

Re: 7-Eleven Stores (1980-Prior)

Here's a Blog post I made a couple of years ago, showing contemporary newspaper photos of a 7-eleven store that opened in 1977 here in Redmond along with a Super Seven gas station. There are also modern photos of the same store and the gas station. It eventually switched to Chevron, although I belie...

Re: 1933 Safeway Locations in Seattle

I know there was at least one Pay'n Takit store (which was Safeway owned) in Kirkland at that time, and one in Kent. I believe the current local Safeway store in Kirkland has a "Serving Kirkland since 1928" sign on the wall, but I believe that a Skaggs United store (later merged into Safew...

Re: Taco Bell 1985 Logo

In some older neighborhoods around here it's not too uncommon to see the older 1980s logo still in use on building signage. There are even a few scattered Mission Style Taco Bells still in operation (an example can be found here. as well as quite a few former Taco Bells that have been since repurpos...

Re: Ream's Closing Original Store

I've been by there on visits to Provo, but haven't ever been in. My brother who lives there never shopped there because the store had something of a bad reputation, although I'm not sure exactly why. Perhaps more interesting than this Ream's store is the former " Ream's Turtle " store in P...

Re: Marina style former Safeway in Los Alamos, NM

Whoa, blast from the past there. I spent most of the first sixteen years of my life in Los Alamos (from roughly 1980-1994) and don't remember this place as being anything besides Metzger's Hardware (it was a True Value when I lived there though.) There was a Safeway in Los Alamos in the Mari-Mac Sho...

Re: Albertsons Logos Through The Years

I finally got around to compiling and posting the stuff I found on the former Downtown Bellevue Albertsons store into a Blog post. It can be found here:

Re: Albertsons Logos Through The Years

To update my post from earlier in the thread about the old Albertsons in downtown Bellevue, while searching through some newspapers I found out that this particular store originally opened in October of 1959. I also came across a number of interior photos of the store from that time of varying quali...

Re: The Sofa Factory/Krause's Sofa Factory

The one that used to be here in Redmond turned into a Bassett Furniture Direct, but I'm not sure if they bought out Krause's Sofa Factory or if they just took over the vacant space.
