I picked up the term colonial A&P from another supermarket forum. Is this a correct style or was that person, and now myself, mistaken? I know of two of this style that are still operating as supermarkets.

Old Grand Union Vestal, NY and old Great American Owego, NY

The Grand Union shut down when they went under, same with the Great American. Both now have new tenants.

John's Fine Foods North Street Owego, NY

This store is in downtown Owego. It was once a Red & White as you can see from the sign. It is less than one block away from another store the same size (picture to come soon) that was once an IGA and two blocks away from another store of the same size (no photo). All three of these stores now s...

Added two from Bath, NY. A former Acme that closed when they left upstate New York and a former Super Duper. Not sure if it was built as a Super Duper but I remember it as one from the 70s until closing in the 90s. Story on this was the owner closed it down to stop a union from forming and later reo...

regional acquired by Kroger). Carl's Supermarkets in South Carolina are Food Lion by another name, mostly older smaller Food Lions rebannered. Glad you enjoyed the photos. I have more from a 2005 trip but they are prints and I don't think I'll ever get around to scanning them. The Carls I visted wa...

A few photos from southwest Virginia 2006

Stores form Galax, VA and Max Meadows, VA 2006.
The Food Country looks like it may have been a Winn Dixie although the inside looks like a Food Lion layout.
I think the Food City was always a Food City.

The Piggly Wiggly in Sanford has made an appearence on the groceteria homepage (someone elses photo not the one I took). Some of you may have already seen these if you followed my earli...

1. Don't post a LOT of images in one post; if you have a bunch of photos, it's better just to link to them so that people with slower connections have the option of downloading them or not. If it's just one or two, don't worry about it. No need to worry about that. I have yet to figure it out so it...

Groceteria,I posted some photos of former Eckerd locations in the Corning, NY area. I don't think these are what you want. These were taken after Eckerds left them and the signs were removed. Also the pictures suck. If you think you can use them in your Eckerd's archives you can download them. http:...

Photos of former grocery stores in the Corning, NY area

I think the Henrietta store is a Wegmans original. I'm not sure but the store that used to be on Mt Hope Ave may have looked like that. They tore that one down several years ago. There are several other small older Wegmans left in the Rochester area.
