Pictures of 2 old style Wegmans
I posted some pictures on flickr of two current Wegmans stores that have not updated their look since at least the 70's. http://www.flickr.com/photos/drpep1024/tags/wegmans. I'm not from the Rochester area where the stores are located so I do not know the history of them. The Henrietta store is due ...

Book that may be of interest
If this post or the book topic is not appropriate than by all means delete this post. I read in the new issue of American Road magazine a blurb about an upcoming photo book titled "Country Stores in North Carolina" by Tony Craig. No release date or publisher mentioned. Once again I apologi...

Re: Winn Dixie
Winn Dixie DID eliminate Astor, Thrifty Maid, Superbrand and Crackin' Good in favor of their own Winn Dixie brand. I still don't understand the logic. The only brand still in existence is Chek, the soft drink brand. Thrifty Maid is coming back. An article in Supermarket news reports Winn Dixie will...

Harris Foodlines in NY state

I remember one in Corning, NY in the mid to late 70's. After the store went out of business Grand Union...

Bells declared bankruptcy in 1992 and the locations have been diivided up and turned in to new retail outlets. The recession at the time did not help a low margin business in a highly competitive market. Didn't a lengthy battle between stores in the Rochester area with triple couponing contribute t...

On Upper Front Street in Binghamton,NY is a plaza with two Giant Markets. The free standing Giant is the original and just across the lot in a strip mall is a former Grand Union that is now the second Giant Market. These are not Ahold Giants but a local Broome County operation of about a dozen stores.
