Re: Kroger in Woodhaven, Michigan

Sad news.... I happened to visit the strip mall in which this Kroger is located today and noticed that it has been closed, and the Kroger lettering removed from the brick exterior. :-( I don't know the exact date that it closed yet, but it must have been within the past couple weeks. The K-Mart acr...

Re: Could this be a former Safeway Marina in Richmond, VA?

As part of a recent trip to Richmond, VA, I had stumbled across this location: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=14+w+20th+st+richmond,+va&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&ei=JyB-UcrUB7T94APmyYD4BA&ved=0CAsQ_AUoAg The address is 14 West 20th Street Richmond VA 23224 and there are references to &q...

Re: Target '90s neon

Not neon on the outside, no! But some stores from 1995-1998 had stripes on the outside. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AcUdTl7Aq-s/R5ez13i7DLI/AAAAAAAADhg/jSnkpubHvP8/s400/Target+Golf+Mill_Cook+Cty.jpg (not the best picture, but it will do) Also, we're talking the 1990s neon. Red, blue, green, and yello...

Re: McDonald's Express

The Farmer Jack at 8000 W. Outer Dr. in Detroit opened in 1995 with a McDonald's Express in it. Anyone know if any other Farmer Jacks did this? I don't recall any other Farmer Jack stores with fast food restaurants in them. In my old hometown of Allen Park, there's still an express just off Allen R...

Re: Aborted Fred Meyer in Phoenix

Yesterday, I posted in Retail Watchers the news that Kroger is going to put in a clothing department at a Marketplace store in Mansfield, Ohio. This sounds like it is going to be a Marketplace pretty close to being a Fred Meyer, other than the Smith's Marketplace stores. While I know that Kroger wa...

Re: Apple Tree- San Diego- Former Safeway

Looks like You're right, the script is *very* close, but the Vons "D" has a longer tail at the top of the letter, and the script is more italic:

Looks like Vons signage from the conversion era (repainted of course).

How does the inside of this store look...?
If I get some time I might take a trip down there. There's a couple old Marinas-turned-independent I wanted to check out.

Albertsons-Lucky-Smith's (Garden Grove)

So part of the recent round of SuperValu's Albertsons closures are the two nearest me. The one in Garden Grove (Harbor & Garden Grove Blvd) is complete with the (in)famous teal and orange Lucky decor. But if you look hard enough, You'll not only see remnants of Smith's (the red checkstands and t...

Pre-CKE Green Burrito Locations

I'll need a little help from my fellow LA/Orange County denziens here... Does anybody know the backstory to the standalone Green Burrito location in Cypress at Valley View and Ball? I do know the history more or less up to the 2001 CKE acquisition of GB (this location was a Del Taco till about 92 or...

Walgreens Rxpress

Since moving to Orange County, I've noticed that Walgreens has apparently kept some of their pharmacy-only locations (though very few). Some background: In the heady days of the mid-90s, the Los Angeles area drugstore scene was dominated by Sav•On and Thrifty. CVS' smaller stores had all but disappe...

Kroger also operated at least one (that I'm personally aware of) pharmacy in, of all places, a Tom Thumb Gas Station in Pensacola, Florida (Kroger has no supermarket operations in Florida at all): I guess it's just another way to get drugs at your local gas station (bad joke). http://farm4.staticfli...

Target GardeGrove (Chapman/Harbor) formerly...?

I went to my local Target (since I moved) and noticed the building is very long and narrow, with two entrances and an interior and exterior unlike any Target I've seen. I've searched these boards to no avail... Does anyone have any tips? 12100 Harbor Blvd Garden Grove, CA http://farm8.staticflickr.c...
