Re: Goodyear Tire Service Centers

I want to point out to all the Goodyear purists that the current version of the logo (with italicized text for the words "GOOD" and "YEAR" on either side of the winged shoe) dates to 1968. Presumably, it must also have been then that the storefront adopted the neon blue "GOO...

Goodyear Tire Service Centers

Could anyone please help me identify all the design aesthetics Goodyear Tires service center architectures used to be like back in the '50s, '60s and '70s? Here is one at SE 82nd Ave. that is now operating as Charlie Bretz Tire Factory: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7223/7270103310_44433a15f2_c.jpg ...

Fred Meyer in Oregon City - Baskin-Robbins

About the Fred Meyer in Oregon City (1839 South Molalla Avenue): is it true that the Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream store located within the main building (suite F) was there from day one in August 1981? Or, did the B-R show up sometime after the FM's first remodeling job in June 1988?

Baskin-Robbins Architectures (1959-1990)

Could anyone here please enlighten me as to the history of Baskin-Robbins' architectural styles owing to the style of architectures as well as the signage? http://www.groceteria.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3052 The old "ragtime/circus 31" logo many of us have remembered was first us...

Re: Baskin Robbins signs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ie7qXmthME If it means anything to you here, this 1991 commercial shows the '70s style logo on the packaging, but has the newer logo (which lasted until 2006) at the very end of the clip. I also discovered that the trademark had been filed for the newer logo that year...

Re: The Very First Texaco "System 2000" Stations (1981-1983)

This address in Brookfield, CT is listed as "Texaco System 2000" in several listings. It's currently a Shell (which many Texaco stations converted to in the early 2000s). http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&rls=en&oe=UTF-8&q=138+Federal+Rd%0ABrookfield,+CT+06804&um=1...

Toys "R" Us #8006 - Tigard, OR

Is anyone able to identify whether or not this Toys "R" Us situated at 10065 SW Cascade Ave. in Tigard, OR, was once an "L-shaped" building, given its year of opening that is 1980 (along with the Jantzen Beach and Clackamas stores)? This is what the store currently looks like (si...

Unusual '60s 7-Eleven

This photo has me wondering: what other pre-1967 7-Elevens had looked like this one? Re: What to look for in Portland?

What about the "hidden Marina" store at 5920 NE Martin Luther King Blvd. Is that one still open? I was in that store about 1 1/2 years ago, and it looks modern on the outside, but the Marina ceiling is in full view inside. Yes, as far as I know that location still exists. This location wa...

The Very First Texaco "System 2000" Stations (1981-1983)

I wonder if anyone here has any pictures from 1981-83 of any of the very first Texaco "System 2000" service stations, which were built to showcase the company's current logo (red circle and white star with "T" cutout)? The System 2000 motif had replaced the '60s-style Matawan mot...

How Many Matawan Texaco Stations Left in Portland, OR?

How many of the Matawan-architecture Texaco stations are left in Portland, OR? The Matawan descriptive refers to the distinctive architecture that was first featured at a location in Matawan, NJ, that dates to 1964. I can think of one in the Oak Grove-Gladstone portion of Milwaukie, OR. I can rememb...

Re: What to look for in Portland?

The Safeway at 101 SE 82nd Ave., which opened October 27, 1967 (it replaced the 8120 SE Stark St. location that dated from 1940), will be the lone remaining Marina Safeway left after the Burlingame location gets remixed. When Safeway finally goes ahead with redeveloping the 82nd & Burnside store...

History of Chain Restaurants in Portland, OR

If anyone here remembers how far back we'd had chain restaurants here in Portland, OR, I would be satisfied. For example: McDonald's opened its first Portland-area restaurant at the corner of NE 122nd Ave. & Glisan St. in February 1960. Burger King opened its first Portland-area restaurant near ...
