NYSW, i have to believe I am wrong. No way was VM supplying anything west of Onondaga county, especially way out in the Buffalo area. Maybe the Waterville store was an ex-Victory, or a special deal, of else I am entirely wrong.

I do know VM supplied area nursing homes and small general stores with grocery goods. Sometimes delivered in a pick up truck owned by VM. Not sure if that was a direct operation or served via charge accounts at the local store. #424 in Norwich held accounts for area nursing and boarding homes and did make deliveries via pick up truck to some spots. But I am not sure if there was a dedicated food service division.

I believe all of the Loblaw's in your previous two posts remained Great American stores up until the bitter end. I believe one or two still run as independent grocery stores.

The former Fonda, NY location now belongs to the ages. The building has been demolished to make way for a new Cumberland Farms store to replace their aging mid-80's unit about a block away.

Just an FYI...I'm currently in the process of separating Victory Market's, Great American's, Peter Pumpkin's, along with former ShopRites, Loblaw's, Genetti's, Oneida's locations, etc...to help make it more understandable. There are many missing from the current list on this topic. I plan to incorporate U-Pump-Em gas stations, Carl's Drugs, Victory Video's, Valiant Discount Health, and etc. I hope it works out....

Here is what I have. I thank all that have helped with this. This is just Victory's/Great American's/Peter Pumpkin's/Valu-Way's/former Chicago Market's/former Loblaw's. It should be known that Victory had 100 stores in April, 1929. Locations given with no street info indicates I just know there was a store there. Any corrections/additions welcomed. Feedback is most welcomed...

Corrections to this list are as follows:

-Amsterdam-was a Chicago Market but also a former Loblaws and at one time was a discount operation of Chicago Markets called Bag 'N Save

-Cooperstown-I seem to recall the 34 Chestnut St. location WAS a Great American as late as 1985. It is now Otsego County govt. offices.

-Fonda-WAS a Great American for many years before closing sometime in 2008. Building has been or is being demolished for a new Cumberland Farms store. I also believe this may have been a former Oneida Market back in the day.

-Gloversville-was a Chicago Market but also a former Loblaws

-Herkimer-was a Chicago Market but only in the shopping center located at the edge of town- I'm not sure of the address. Victory operated a free standing store more in the center of town on the same street as the shopping center and that became a Great American. I'm going to surmise at the time of the sale, they closed that location and combined the two stores in the larger shopping center space which became Great American.

-North Utica-Not sure if this is the same one but there was a location on Herkimer Road (State Route 5) which at one time was a Chicago Market

-Oneonta-Outside of town on State Route 7 which was originally a Victory. In additon to the one listed (which I believe was the one in the Southside Mall correct?) there was also one within the city a few blocks from SUNY Oneonta although the street address escapes me right now. It was actually located right next to the the radio station and the local paper.

-Little Falls-may have been a Chicago Market in the interim but that location began life as a Loblaws

-Richfield Springs-was indeed a Great American and lasted right up until a few years ago when PC opened a few blocks away. The location is now a Dollar General

-Whitesboro-of the two stores, one of them was in a shopping center (Great American) and one was a free standing store that may have been paired with a Carl's Drug-the free standing store was a Chicago Market and I can't recall if it became Great American

Ok, I remember in 1976 that both Chicago Markets and Victory Markets were purchasing former Loblaws.
-Cooperstown-I seem to recall the 34 Chestnut St. location WAS a Great American as late as 1985. It is now Otsego County govt. offices.
Ok...
-Fonda-WAS a Great American for many years before closing sometime in 2008. Building has been or is being demolished for a new Cumberland Farms store. I also believe this may have been a former Oneida Market back in the day.
It was indeed a former Oneida Market. My mistake, as I did list that in an earlier post.
-Gloversville-was a Chicago Market but also a former Loblaws
Back to the 1976 Chicago Markets and Victory Markets buying former Loblaws...
-Herkimer-was a Chicago Market but only in the shopping center located at the edge of town- I'm not sure of the address. Victory operated a free standing store more in the center of town on the same street as the shopping center and that became a Great American. Ok..will add this and look for address...
-North Utica-Not sure if this is the same one but there was a location on Herkimer Road (State Route 5) which at one time was a Chicago Market
Will look into this. Unsure at the moment...
-Oneonta-Outside of town on State Route 5 which was originally a Victory. Yes on the Southside Mall. I believe you mean State Route 7?...
-Little Falls-may have been a Chicago Market in the interim but that location began life as a Loblaws
Definitely a Chicago Market. Back to the 1976 Chicago Markets and Victory markets buying former Loblaws...
-Richfield Springs-was indeed a Great American and lasted right up until a few years ago when PC opened a few blocks away. The location is now a Dollar General
Correct you are!! This is my mistake!!!
-Whitesboro-of the two stores, one of them was in a shopping center (Great American) and one was a free standing store that may have been paired with a Carl's Drug-the free standing store was a Chicago Market and I can't recall if it became Great American
Interesting...I'll go through my notes as this does ring a bell!!!

Thank you for the information!!!

-Yes I do indeed mean State Route 7 in Oneonta-my error. I had referenced NY State Route 5 just above it. It was in a small strip along with a Carl's Drugs and W. T. Grant. Before Interstate 88, that was the route we took between NY and NE Pa. The Southside Mall store sadly became infamous in 1994 when an off duty NY State Trooper was killed trying to foil a robbery attempt.

Nice list. Minor quibble- the Greene location did become, and still is, a Great American.

Cincinnatus became a GA but recently closed under the Shur-Fine banner.

Thanks!

Thank you TW and GA for your information!! I'm trying to figure out exactly when Victory Markets introduced the Great American name...1974 is the earliest I've found...

Chenango County Historical Society might be able to help. The grandson of the company's founder, (W.H. Dunne) lives in the area as well. They might be able to find out.

I do know the name dates to about the era you suspect. Larger market stores were changed to the GA banner, smaller markets remained Victory.
