Robinson's-May Department Store-Beverly Hills, Calif. (1952)

The Los Angeles Times edition of March 14, 2009 reported that the Robinson's-May department store building at 9900 Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills, Calif. is endangered. It is across Wilshire Blvd. from the Beverly Hilton. A hotel and condominium complex is planned for the site, requiring demolition of the department store building.

The store opened in 1952 and closed in 2006. It was 200,000 square feet large with 1,100 parking spaces when it opened; cost was $6 million. Architect-engineers were Charles O. Matcham, Charles Luckman and William Pereira (of San Francisco Transamerica Pyramid and Irvine city planning fame). Raymond Loewy and Associates designed the interior

The site has been sold...again.

Will they truly move ahead this time with the plans to tear it down:
