Les Schwab Tire Centers road sign question

I have noticed that some of the older Les Schwab Tire Centers have a road sign where the word "Tires" is outlined in neon, where the newer ones are simply backlit versions of the same sign. The basic sign design dates back to at least the early 80s (when I first saw a Les Schwab) and is still used today. I was wondering what year Les Schwab did away with the neon?
