Does anybody remember the convenience store chain called
U-Tell-Um. At one time in the 1950's they tried operating a conventional size grocery in Orange, Calif. where I lived. They were however unsuccessful in being able to make a success of the store which was located on South Main St. Later on they sold their U-Tell-Um Grocery Store to Michael's Markets (a small Southern California Grocery Chain).
I think that part of the mistake in running this grocery store by U-Tell-Um was that they were thinking more of running it as they had been operating their convenience stores and the two are different types of operations with much higher and lower profit margins and methods and styles of operation. Sadly they failed in their attempt at running a traditional grocery store.

Thanks, Wayne Winterland Jr.

Is U-Tell-Um the same as the old "U-Tote-Um" convenience store chain? Their slogan was "U-tell-Um U-Tote-M!"

I'm think that at one time that originally they were 2 seperate companies who may have combined operations at some later date in time probably in the mid to late 1950's.

thanks for the reply, Wayne
