Re: Great American
Painted Post, NY had two Great Americans, a small one in the Village Square and a larger one in the former A&P on Victory Highway just outside the village limits. A Valu Home Center resides there now. Corning had two, one on Denison Parkway (former Route 17), formerly Harris Food Lines and Grand...

Re: Acme in New York
Acme was still in NY during the 80's. The Acme in Bath that is now the Salvation Army store was briefly a P&C store. P&C at the time also had, and still has, a store in the plaza around the corner, almost behind the Salvation Army location.

Holley Farm
Was passing through Alabama, NY, small town between Buffalo and Rochester and north of Batavia when I came upon a small store called Alabama Holley Farm. Anyone know if this was part of a bigger chain or co-op at one time? I've never heard of the name.

SAfeway owned Piggly Wigglys
I know in the 30's Safeway owned/bought some Piggly Wigglys on the West Coast. Does Safeway still own any Piggly Wigglys? I say no way. I'm biting my tongue trying not to get into an internet squabble with someone who is insisting Safeway still owns 50 Piggly Wigglys. I figure someone here will have...

Book about Food City
Someone mentioned a book about Meijers. This reminded me that I had purchased a book at a Food City supermarket in Galax, Virginia when I pass through in 2006. It is titled "A Grocer and His Dream" (I think, the book is in storage now). It chronicles the history of Jack Smith, founder of t...

I've only been to Perry twice. The last time was about 2002 and the building was as pictured.

Re: Long John Silver's freestanding stores
There is a nice older free standing LJS in Williamsport, PA. I wish I had thought to take a picture. The only two freestanding LJS in upstate NY have closed within the last 2 years. The one in Horseheads because of highway relocation, although the building still stands, and the one in Geneva closed ...

Bi-Lo Foods in Renovo, PA, what was it before?
This is the Bi-Lo supermarket in Renovo, PA. Part of Penn Traffic. Can anyone tell if this was another store at one time? Maybe an A&P?

Say goodbye to P&R Pasta. It has been replaced with Ronzoni. The package has both the P&R and Ronzoni logos on it.
