Although I have nothing to add on this, should it be opened up to include the New England Brooks too? I don't have any personal interest, but I'm sure someone might like to see them. Which is to say I wom't be archiving them, but if anyone has interesting shots of older Brooks stores, they can feel...

I think that's been covered here in more detail before but I can't seem to find it. But no, there is no relationship. The name, as I recall, came from a different Sav-on chain Kroger acquired somewhere along the way.

I'm told by an email correspondent that city directories show this location to have been a Winn-Dixie from roughly 1957 to the early 1970s. Prior to 1957, there was a nursery there. I guess Winn-Dixie could have renovated the nursery building, but I doubt it. Maybe it was just an unusual test protot...

Lee Bros, Belmont CA

There was a great photo of the former Lee Bros store in Belmont on "Malls of America" yesterday:

Board Problems This Morning

Hi all. Apparently, there was a problem with the database that drives the message board sometime overnight. I was able to fix it this morning, but I'm not 100% certain why it happened. Please let me know if you run into anything unusual. And if you tried to log in last night/this morning between abo...

Hi gang. A request, if I may. Since the Eckerd name is about to go away forever, I'm trying to assemble as many good photos of Eckerd locations as I can. I'm NOT really interested in the current cookie-cutter standalone format (the white stucco with blue trim) that can be found everywhere in the sou...

Skyline Foods...that must be what was Cala at Skyline Plaza, and now Ranch 99? I think so. It would make a lot of sense for the Westlake Safeway to have gone through a Brentwood period. I'd sort of suspected as much. My source also said that the store was originally where Walgreens now stands. I'm ...

How about an IGA or a regional co-op? Independents in the Southeast seem to be more barebones than their counterparts in the NE & Midwest. This looks like a very minimalist solution. Actually, I almost thought it was too nice a building for an independent, which is why I wondered if it were som...

For some reason a bowling alley comes to mind. Interesting guess, but it's really not big enough, plus it's oriented the wrong way. I'm 90% sure it was always retail, and I'm fairly sure it was a supermarket. My only other guess might be a furniture store. I guess I was mainly posting this one to s...

Right. I'd forgotten about Bally; it's in an appendage south of the theaters, right?

Webb Avenue, Burlington NC

http://groceteria.com/forboard/burlington-webb.jpg This one's really got me stumped. I'm pretty sure it was a supermarket, and it really for all the world looks like some sort of chain prototype, but I've never seen another one like it around here. Any thoughts? I'll probably research Burlington at...
