Below is a typical Market Basket facade. This is my local Albertsons in Granada Hills, which I believe is a former Market Basket based on the architecture. (I know that it was a Smith's Food King until 1984 when it became a Lucky. I can't find any evidence that it was a MB though, it just looks lik...

Alpha Beta Distribution Center--La Habra, California

The original Alpha Beta distribution center (DC) on Harbor Boulevard in La Habra CA has had quite a history of companies! Originally the Alpha Beta (DC)...it became the LUCKY DC. Then the Albertsons/Sav-On DC. I believe it is now the CVS DC--I have not been driven by there in some time. What is comi...

The RALPHS in La Habra CA that had been a former HUGHES Market recently closed. When the RALPHS sign was removed...the old HUGHES writing could still be seen! Former HUGHES sites in San Bernarndino, Rialto and Victorville are all still RALPHS. The Apple Valley store is a Ralphs. The Victorville sto...

Williams Brothers Markets--California Central Coast

Williams Brothers had eighteen (18) stores. The locations stretched from Santa Barbara to Paso Robles. They were ultimately acquired by VONS in 1991. Anyone have history about the chain? I went to Cal Poly...and remember their ANNOYING television/radio commericals "What a Difference...What a Di...

There is a Chinese restaurant in Anaheim (I want to say off Katella or Lincoln west of harbor, east of Valley View) that has the original sign. Isn't it on Harbor...in Buena Park?! They simply removed the Pioneer name...and added the Chinese restaurant's. It is in the same shape. Same thing...acros...

The sears that I used to frequent all discontinued this in the early 90's. The Sears Puente Hills mall had the candy counter upstaris next to the elevator. The Sears in Alhambra had the candy counter upstairs near the escalators. This store was the first to discontinue the counter in the area. This...

Re: Ohrbach's Department Store

I remember them well. They closed up shop here in LA in 1986. They had only a couple of locations here. - Los Cerritos Center (still standing, became Mervyns in 1987) - Wishire Corridor (still standing, today is the Petersen Automotive Museum) - Del Amo Fashion Square (still standing - upper level ...

We had two best stores that I remember shopping in. One was located in Montclair, CA. It was located on the sw corner of Central Ave. and I believe Arrow Hwy. It is now a Best Buy. The other one was in San Bernardino. I was right next to the I-215 on the east side. It was across the street from Car...

Re: Treasury Department Stores

Anyone remember this disocunt store? My family used to drive from L.A. to the one in Buena Park. One day we went, the store was all boarded up. The last one was going out of business in Riverside I believe, and I remember that they were just about empty except for the few shelves in front. I couldn...

Many of the ZODYS locations became RALPHS: The Giant. They were HUGE Ralphs locations. Did not last too long. Many were then converted to regular Ralphs sites. The Food4Less off the 605 freeway in Southern California (Norwalk area)...was such a location.
