I'm posting this from a McDonald's here in Redlands, wrapping up my Southern California jaunt. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get to the Vons on Alvarado in L.A., since I have to detour around I-5 because of the 29-truck pileup in the Newhall tunnel in Santa Clarita, so I have to trek up and arou...

Went to the Lucky on Mission Ave. in Hayward today. The main reason I was interested to see what Save Mart did to this store is because it was a relatively recent (less than 5 yrs old, I think) Albertsons with a modern decor (no drop ceilings, etc.). It looks like the sherbet theme actually worked w...

Re: Car dealerships inside former mall anchor spaces
...Are there any other malls with an arrangement like this? I can't say I have ever seen a car dealership inside a mall, and it doesn't seem like something one would look for when visiting a mall. Back when Saturn first appeared on the market, they had a regular mall-sized storefront in the Westmin...

I've got the first set of pictures up. Ray's in Yreka seems to still retain the lettering from the 1960's Safeway ecor, since it matches the font in this one from Oakland here on the site, though they've updates the look with newer colors: Safeway (Oakland, CA on Grand Ave.) http://www.groceteria.co...

This has the ability for me to post pictures via my laptop, but also allows me to email pictures straight from my cell phone!

Do you haea location on that, or know what it's currently operating as, and I'll put it on my map, I've never taken 99 down, so I'm game for it...TheStranger wrote:If you take 99 instead of 5 from Stockton to the Bakersfield area, you could hit up the former marina Safeway out in Selma (south of Fresno)...

Re: McDOnalds
The McDonalds in Hayward Ca says (or used to say) Home of the Mini Mac in there sign. The Newark Mall has a McDonalds by it that has a map of all the MicDonalds "firsts" All the times I passed by, I thought it just said "Mini Mac" and thought it was because the restaurant was re...

This is one picture of the abandoned HOJO next door to where I work. It's been closed for over 20 years. You can see bits of orange peeking out under the blue paint of the restaurant area. This hotel also had a Red Coach Grill on the top floor. it's a shame my friend from Michigan isn't out here......

Submariner: Let me flip this around upon you: are there any chains that you have a particular interest in? I've spent some time down here in my corner of the world (where LA County and the OC meet)... What are you on the wild road of store hopping for? Old grocery? Modern? Anything? There is some o...

I was planning on making roseburg on the first night, making Hayward a 5-day stop in the east bay, and another 3 to 5 days in So Cal, then likely overnight around the CA/OR border on 101 for the returnstorewanderer wrote: I'll think of more later. If I were a betting man, I'd say that the Best Buy/Staples just east of the Super K was the original store. The display glass was common to the standardized Super K, where the KCafe was. Definitely a standard Super K, identical to the Lincoln Park, MI store among others. I've only known of one Kmar...
