A sixty-second Safeway television commercial from the 1970s is on YouTube:

It features a sung jingle that includes the phrase, "Since we're neighbors, let's be friends." It includes many scenes of a butcher/meat department. It includes some interior shots of a Safeway supermarket.

Great to see this. That ad campaign and jingle actually played a part in one of the most pivotal moments in the first "Tales of the City" books, as part of the description of the Marina Safeway and its role as a pick-up spot.

Here's another 1970s Safeway television spot on YouTube:

(Begins at 9:12).
This one apparently is from 1970-71. It is set in the dairy section of a store, with many 1970s milk cartons visible in the background. That general design of Lucerne milk cartons lasted until the 1980s, if I remember correctly.
