Re: Old Dairy Queen signs
I've been to a few other DQ's since my original post on this thread. I've noticed a few posting pictures of the specific store that you're standing in over the years. A couple of them show the previous building at the location, or a DQ with no seating (just serving) then being rebuilt into a Brazier...

Re: Hill's? Hill's-Korvette?
I tend to think of Korvettes in the same breath as of Two Guys and Great Eastern, although I imagine that they might disagree with that assessment. I seem to dimly recall the phrase "discount department stores" being associated with them in their advertising. The two most important departm...

And yes, this is a good example of why it's never a good idea to link directly to other people's images; aside form being rude, it leaves someone else in charge of the content that displays on your page. Hee hee... Good for you! And I second the "hee hee"... I don't post here often, only ...

Re: Grocers in "real" malls - not strip malls
Yes the MenloPark Mall did have a Finast thta was attached to the mall but only had and outside entrance. Themall also had a Pathmark on the otherside of the mall entrance from the Finast, that store had a Mall entrance. The Finast never was a Safeway but was a former Pantry Pride. Ah, thank you fo...

Re: Grocers in "real" malls - not strip malls
Going "north of the border" (if no one minds), the Parry Sound Mall in Parry Sound, Ontario has an A&P as its anchor. The official website has a photo showing the mall entrance of the A&P. http://www.parrysoundmall.ca I was personally there over the summer. For the curious, Parry S...

Re: Supermarket jingles
There was, during the 1980's if I recall correctly, a radio jingle for Food Emporium that ran on some New York City stations, the first line of which was "Someone made a store just for me..." I can't remember what the next line was, because I would always sing over it, "But I know tha...

Here in Rochester, CC closed its original store (with the "plug") and opened a new outlet about a mile north. The former CC is temporarily a Halloween Costume outlet.

Re: Former Boston Market locations in your area
At least one Boston Market in eastern Massachusetts is closed, although the signs indicating its presence are still posted on the Interstate (grrr...) Where? On the Mass Pike? I was on the Mass Pike earlier tonight as a matter of fact. No, off of 495 IIRC, northwest of Boston. The sign for "Fo...

Re: Former Boston Market locations in your area
In Avenel (Woodbridge) NJ, in front of the KMart/Pathmark strip shopping center there is/was a Boston Market that was once a Roy Rogers. I don't recall whether it still is one or not. In the Rochester NY area there were once three Boston Markets. One in Fairport/Perinton was closed and I believe is ...

Bill Cullen for Korvettes: TV Ad Dec 1971
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBCtF7huXn8 At about :47 of this clip is an ad for Korvettes with legendary game show host Bill Cullen featured. Cullen did not do a lot of advertising other than promoting products on the shows he hosted so this is a find from both the department store and game show a...

Re: 2 Supermarkets In One Shopping Center
Where in Menlo Park Mall were these supermarkets? I dimly remember that there was one grocery on the property but outside the main part of the mall (you needed to walk outside to reach it), but I don't recall there being two.

574 Jersey Avenue, Jersey City, was definitely a Finast-- it's one of the supermarkets my mom took me to when I was a child. Since my mom always called it a "Safeway" I guess that's what it was before Finast (thanks to the Groceteria site, I understand that now!). 764 West Grand Avenue, Ra...

Re: Gino's/Roy Rogers Restaurants in LA?
Somewhat OT, but if it's the Gino's I am thinking of, they were definitely in New Jersey also. There was one in South Plainfield, not far off of Route 287. They had "homestyle hamburgers" and thicker than typical French Fries toward the end of their existence, both of which went to Roy Rog...

Re: Anyone in DC/MD/VA area remember S. Klein's?
S. Klein's was also in downtown Newark, New Jersey "on the square" (not sure which square). I believe this may have been their flagship store. The store was vacant for a long time after Klein's shut down. There was a Klein's in Woodbridge, New Jersey as well, across US Route 1 from Woodbri...

Re: 2 Supermarkets In One Shopping Center
During the 1990's there was both a Wegmans and a Bells in the Irondequoit Plaza, in the town of the same name near Rochester NY.
Wegmans rebuilt its store into one of its newer designs and the Bells closed shortly afterwards.
