Re: The oldest Loblaws store in operation?

Moore Ave in Toronto would be another contender for oldest store still operating as Loblaws. There is a pre-1960 store underneath all that. It actually hasn't even been enlarged all that much. I've been in this one in the past year and it still has the "feel" of its original layout. Ditto Isabella ...

A Dominion opened up at an unnumbered location on the east side of Ingersoll Road by 1966, and this store may have also existed in 1960. I'd wager a guess that this location is now 171.
I'm almost certain you're correct about this.

I'll have this list added by tomorrow. Thanks!

Re: Book About Commercial Architecture in Southern California - Early 20th Century

Richard Longstreth's books are all pretty much amazing. I actually just got around to starting his (2007?) book on the history of department stores recently. I can't recommend him highly enough.

I meant to post this one earlier. Main Street East in Hamilton, Ontario. It also has an "updated" bucket.

Re: NEW: Green Bay, 1925-2004

My experience is that the permanent "official" address for fringe and suburban locations is finalized before the actual boundaries are. Areas that were assigned when they were outside city limits often take on the name of the nearest city. I once lived in an apartment that was well inside the Charlo...

I'm surprised that 2110 S. Ridge Rd. in Ashwaubenon and 1220 S. Webster Ave. in Allouez didn't get a mention.
They're both there; the directories (and Google Maps) list both locations as being in Green Bay proper.

NEW: Green Bay, 1925-2004

Evidently I forgot to take this live several months ago when Andrew T. did the 1925-1959 part (thanks BTW). Here it is through 2004:

Re: Brampton, ON supermarket history

I'm also going to hazard a guess that Steinberg's/Miracle was at Brampton Mall (160 Main St S, now Metro) and Dominion was somewhere at Shoppers World (499 Main St S).

It looks like 233 Queen St E and 2 Kennedy Rd S (Dominion) are actually the same location.

Re: Texas Updates

Did a little more checking. Food Lion entered Texas in 1991-1992 and had closed many of the stores by early 1994. The gave up on the entire state a couple of years later, so their entrance and exit all happened during my "missing" years in the 1990s (I was not able to get data for 1995).

NEW: St Louis, 1933-1975

Brand new, but with some caveats: https://www.groceteria.com/place/us-missouri/st-louis/

The big issue is that I somehow managed not to end up with the Kroger, National, and Bettendorf-Rapp listings for 1966 and 1970. I hope to correct that by the end of the summer.

Penn Fruit Locations, 1955

Found while looking for something else. This also solved a mystery store question for me.

Re: Major chains as Piggly Wiggly franchisees

Were there ever any Piggly Wiggly stores in the northeast? None have surfaced in my research, so that's one place with wasted potential. There was a reasonably large franchise in Rhode Island that evolved into the regional Almacs chain. I don't know of many others, unless you want to count the Sani...
