Re: Big Lots

Others I have seen:The very first Big Lots I ever went to was a former 3D Discount Center in Mattoon, IL which itself had been a Kroger Family Center. I wonder if this is related to the 3D Discount Center that bought a couple former Yankee/Zody's stores in Michigan? I know the Yankee stores in Esse...

Re: Montgomery Ward 1970s signage

The store at Rogers Plaza in Grand Rapids used to have that logo. This store opened in 1960 with the mall, and stayed until 2001. It was demolished a couple years ago for AJ Wright (the only new-build AJ Wright I've ever seen) and a Family Fare Supermarket, the former of which opens out to the mall....

Re: Picway Shoes

I have a vague recollection of Pic-Way here in Michigan. They usually opted for stand-alone stores for some reason. I know there was one across from Fashion Square Mall in Saginaw, and one next to the Baskin-Robbins in Bay City (oddly, the only B-R in the Tri-Cities for nearly 20 years), which still...

Picway Shoes

Does anyone know anything about this chain? I know that they had a large number of stores in 31 states and were bought out by Payless in 1994 (source: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-15770784.html ). What was the chain's history? Did it have any distinctive store features?

Minor update: I found that the Benton Harbor Jewel was still open until 1999.

Re: Early Kmart closures (PRE-1994)

1. Ypsilanti, MI, Grove at Emerick...visible from I94, I think this closed before 1994. Shopping center interesting also because the Farmer Jack had one of those tall yellow signs. Store has never reopened as anything else. 2. I remember seeing one in Adrian, MI, probably 1991 or so. Don't know if ...

Early Kmart closures (PRE-1994)

Digging in Google News archives, I found that the first major round of Kmart closings came in 1994 with another in 1995. However, I have found a smattering of closures that predate the 1994 wave. I'm trying to find any Kmart stores that would have closed before that point and were not replaced by a ...

Re: Former IHOP locations

I found a couple of the old-school ones in Detroit:

19505 Grand River, Detroit, now a Corned Beef restaurant

449 N. Wayne, Westland, now a coney island

And one that's still open:

Royal Oak

Re: McDonaldland Parks adjacent to McDonalds restaurants

I haven't found a whole lot of information so far, and am wondering if this was a predecessor to the "playlands" of today. Worth noting though is that this location did have both the park and a playland out front for a while. I actually did not look to see if this one still had the playla...

So, this was basically a really small mall, not a strip?

Re: Old Kmart building signage

If I recall correctly, the exterior signage was a bit more condensed, in part because of the smaller facade (which was definitely not the green color that it is now -- I'm pretty sure it was a very dark brown). I want to say that the "K" was one piece of plastic instead of the two used in...

Richmond, Indiana. Richmond Square Mall had a Kroger on one end. It's main entrance was outside, but they had a small hallway (basically, enough for a cart) to the mall interior.
Was this by any chance where the OfficeMax is now?
