I lean toward Kroger, but I'm not sure. Any ideas on this one?

Actually, Western Auto is not really a department store, but more of a auto parts/hardware store.

Interesting Older Dominion/A&P Locations in Toronto

Carry-over from another thread: One store I'd recommend visiting is this Dominion in Mississauga (western Toronto suburb). It's one of the few A&P/Dominions left that still has a parcel pickup. Here's a couple of pics I've taken of it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/78111739@N00/324452982/in/set-7...

Safeway Locations in Toronto

Safeway briefly operated in the Toronto area. Anyone with info on specific locations?

Thanks. I'm going to start a separate topic on Safeway Toronto locations in the other forum, which I probably should've done before:

David : Thanks for the cleanup. I was trying to keep this neat and organized, and I realize that Gemco is somewhat marginal when it comes to Groceteria subject matter. Gemco is entirely on-topic; they (usually) sold food and were owned by Lucky. It's the discussion that emerged tonight that WASN'T ...

There's also this really amazing one which was mentioned in another thread, but apparently was always a Dominion:

Re: Toronto General

Thanks. That clarifies it all beautifully. So I assume IGA Canada operated in the same co-op/franchise manner as its US cousin, rather than as an actual one-owner chain.

Any specific Tornoto-area ex-Safeway locations I could scout on my next visit?

Any guesses on this one? I'm still going through odds and ends from my big road trip last fall.

The store may predate the superstore and be a remodel/expansion of a 1960's build. I was thinking that too, since it seems more rectangular than the classic greenhouse. Most of the ground-up greenhouse stores were closer to square, as I recall, with split aisles. I sort of get the same feeling abou...

I've moved this to Specific Locations/Commercial Archaeology, since that's what it's about. Let's please keep it HISTORY focused.

Thanks,
