Ah, what was the address number for this intersection? When I checked the list in the SF section, I think it was 4820 3rd but that gave me the Oakdale intersection. It's 6190 Third. The store at 4820 was an older one dating from the early 1930s to the mid 1950s. Oh okay, I didn't originally see tha...

Better photo, from Live Local: http://groceteria.com/forboard/purity3rd.jpg It's at the corner of 3rd and Paul. I believe the church building (closest to the corner) was the original Siri's/Purity, but it's been about five years since I've been by there, so I don't really recall the specifics of th...

I'm thinking where you have the #2 is the Giant, and right to the right of it is the expanded safeway. if you look closely at the roof of the safeway, its lighter and darker and looks like the center part is where the store was expanded out. In fact, looking at it closer on Google Maps, the #1 you ...

Here's an overhead view of the area from Google Maps: It appears the one I've labeled #1 is the ex-Giant/Grand Union, and #2 is the Safeway. EDIT: See Jeff's correction below on my labeling. Thanks Jeff! :) http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/8618/columbiardoo1.jpg According to the Euphemistic Safeway ...

Several in NorCal come to mind immediately, some of which I have photographed at my site... - The former Safeway at Westborough Square in S. San Francisco, a 1970s-era store (with the circle S signs!) closed in 1997, and has since become a Pet Club. - Former Brentwood at Sunshine Center in SSF is no...

I think Paper or Plastic was just referring, as he said, to a UCD medical building, not to the entire hospital. UCD has clinics and other buildings scattered all over the region. And I think I remember there being a medical complex in that area now as well. Now that you mention it...that makes sens...

I've found a few photos of this Bellevue store in particular and posted it in a thread on Northwest Safeway locations: http://www.groceteria.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=641 The 410 Bellevue address still shows up on the store locator though. One of the photos I found for that thread, a store in Eastga...

my guess is that building in the back is the old county hospital. That area has been all reconstructed and the site now has a UCD medical building on it. Actually, the UCD medical center is out at the former fairgrounds at Broadway and Stockton Boulevard, not particularly close to the L Street area.

Speaking of Service Merchandise and BEST, South San Francisco had one of each - BEST at Gellert Square, and Service Merchandise in the old White Front space at Spruce/El Camino. The Service Merchandise closed around 2000 and Safeway wanted to expand its store into the vacant space, but Bally's Total...

Apparently, the Sherwood Park Mall in Sherwood Park, AB has a Safeway: http://www.kalynacountry.com/shopping.htm --- Closer to home, I can think of two sites in the Peninsula that had in-mall supermarkets: the former Petrini's (now a Borders Books) at Stonestown in SF, and the Longs Drugs that was a...
