Wow!
I thought I was the only one who remembered that store in Rockridge-- but I remember it as "International Market Place" or IMP. Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but this was around 1968 or so.

Woolco
Anyone remember them? They were Woolworths' attempt to compete with Kmart. The only one I can remember was at Point West Shopping Center on Arden Way in Sacramento. I believe it was later a Weinstocks Furniture Gallery and/or Clearance Center. I'm not sure what's there now, although there's a Circui...

Fontana, CA
There was definitely a Phar-Mor in Fontana, CA, just north of I-10 at the Sierra (I think) exit. It was in a shopping center along with an Expo (Vons experiemental club-like store.)

Grant's in San Jose
When I got my first job out of college and my first apartment, I bought a dark green fake leather sofabed (hey, it was 1974--give me a break!) at the Grant's in the mall on Capitol Expressway in northeast San Jose. The mall's other anchor was Montgomery Ward. I haven't been in that area in at least ...

Gold Circle?
Was there some connection between Zody's and Gold Circle? I seem to remember that some locations changed from one to the other, but I can't remember which was first. If I recall correctly, Gold Circle was part of Ralphs' first foray into northern California, and the stores were always Gold Circle/Ra...

Bazar
Does anyone remember this store? The only location I remember was adjacent to the northern end of SunValley Mall in Concord, CA (although I think Bazar was technically in Pleasant Hill.) It was an early general merchandise discounter, and I remember it from the mid to late 60s. (SunValley opened in ...

Pleasant Hill, CA
There was a Treasury store on Contra Costa Blvd. in Pleasant Hill, just north of Sun Valley Mall, on the west side of the street. It was originally a White Front, and is now a Target. I also remember several in the San Jose area when I lived there in the mid-70s, but I can't remember any specific lo...

Monrovia Safeway
1. Monrovia - 210 Fwy. & Huntington Dr (now a Marshalls) This store (in the Huntington Oaks Shopping Center) was converted to a Vons before it became Marshalls. It was probably only open as a Vons for a year or two. I remember thinking how wasteful it must have been to spend all of that money c...
