That's going to be a very long shot. Most of their stores built in the 50's and 60's looked exactly like that and there is nothing in the background or forground that would distinguish it. It looks very much like the store at 3rd & Fairfax in Los Angeles (now a Ross).

I worked for Safeway at the time of the Vons takeover. There were 189 stores in the division at the time and I kept an old store list but have no idea where it is now. I would guess that more than half of Safeway's old stores are still open today as Vons or Pavilions.

Thirftimart

Thirftimart was owned by the same French company that owns Smart & Final. They sold the better stores to Safeway in the early 80"s (the only one I know of that is still open is the Pavilions in West Hills although I am sure there are others) so they could focus on Smart & Final, which e...

The Tianguis stores initially did very well, but during a labor protest relating to grapes Vons made the decision to have Ceasar Chavez arrested at one of the stores (in Highland Park if I remember correctly). The publicity in the Spanish media was very bad and sales started falling rapidly and they...

Actually now that I look at the side window it looks a lot like the old El Segundo store, but still not 100% sure. A lot of Mayfair Markets had windows on the side of the store including the one I was hired at in 1980 in Ocean Beach (San Diego), CA.

I am 100% possitive that this is a Mayfair Market interior. They used this interior package in most of their store remodels during the late 80's and 90's. If I remember right they only had 20 or so stores left when they went to this package but I cannot identify which location it is. A lot of the in...
