In 1988, Boise Towne Square mall opened, and at that time Sears & JCPenney moved from their downtown locations. However The Bon Marche (as it was known then) decided to keep the downtown store open in addition to a new store that opened in the mall. It is interesting though that it lasted this long, nearly 22 years, past the opening of the mall. Especially when you consider that it was the only major department store in downtown Boise after the mall opened. One contributing factor may also be the fact that Macy's built a new store in nearby Nampa which opened just last year, and at that time, converted their longtime Karcher Mall location to a clearance center.
