And Delaware makes 50!

Big milestone: all 50 US states and all 10 Canadian provinces are now represented on the site:

SSL upgrade

I'm in the process of enabling SSL on the site (so you will not see all those "Not Secure" warnings. Things may look a little odd for a bit (e.g. images not loading properly) due to some glitches. I'm working on it.

The message board seems fine, FWIW.

Re: NEW; Anchorage, 1968 and 2018

Great info. Thanks.

Just FYI, I will be greatly expanding the Anchorage list within a month or two. I've found a source for Anchorage city directories much closer to home (since a trip to Alaska is sadly not in the budget this year).

The Safeways do not appear to have continued as Finasts.
Nope. I noticed that too. They tended to be small, older stores and probably were not very attractive to a new owner. Safeway apparently did not make much of an investment in Newark over the years.

Re: NEW: Williamsburg VA

Ah, so Williamsburg evaporated with the Richmond stores rather than the Tidewater/Hampton ones. That makes sense...

And both very easily identified with "FF" still prominently displayed on each building.
That helped :)

NEW: Trenton NJ, 1925-2005

Trenton is pretty bleak by most measures. I believe there is currently not a single full-service chain supermarket located within the city limits, and this is for a city of 84,000 people. There is an interesting history, though: http://www.groceteria.com/place/us-new-jersey/trenton/ Particularly int...

A hidden gem of a city that has multiple grocery and large retail stores that have been used for new purposes is Abilene, TX.
FYI, there is an Abilene page on the site, though I only had data through 1963:

There are two other stores on the West side of the city
Interesting. These probably never made it into the city directories. If you can verify some dates, I'll add them. Thanks!

Re: NEW: Williamsburg VA

It's interesting to see that Safeway made a belated, cursory, one-store attempt at securing a toehold in the city in the 1980s! Safeway actually had a reasonable (though not huge) presence in the adjacent Tidewater/Hampton Roads area in the 1970s and 1980s, so Williamsburg, which is halfway between...
