This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in York between 1925 and 2020, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections. Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.

Notes:

• Notably absent are the Community Pure Food affiliates. These stores were listed in the directories under their owner’s names with no indication of their affiliation. Also, newspaper advertisements did not include location lists.
• Another early co-op, Yorktown Stores, presents the same problem.
• The directories have significant gaps for the Weis stores. I think I have mostly filled them in from other sources, but there may be some omissions.
