This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in Owen Sound between 1930 and 2019, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections.
Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.
Location list courtesy of Andrew Turnbull. Pre-1968 and some later additions by Your Humble Host.
Notes
- 1948 and 1952 listings were culled from newspapers.
- The first No Frills (Millers) opened in 1979 in a Loblaw-owned former National Grocers warehouse at 946 3rd Avenue East. The first Loblaws store on 2nd Avenue East was also connected to this building. The No Frills store closed about a year later.
