This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in Macon between 1925 and 2020, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections. Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.

Notes:
- This was a particular challenge as basically every street in the city was renumbered around 1949. Fortunately, the 1950 city directory provided a good “crosswalk” so most of the locations should be pretty accurate.
- Probably due to ongoing population declines, Macon was abandoned by several chains in the region much earlier than they departed other areas: A&P was gone by 1975, Winn-Dixie by 1982, and Big Star before 1990. Kroger is by far the dominant traditional chain at present.
