Albany Suburban Chain Grocery/Supermarket Locations, 1925-2005

This page was last updated on 30 April 2025.

This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in suburban locations near Albany between 1925 and 2005, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections. Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.

Delmar Grand Union became Hannaford, as did Voorheesville after 1970, becoming SuperValu then Nichols Shop ‘n Save (the franchise arm of Hannaford) before corporate bought it out. Latham Price Chopper goes by Market Bistro while many area stores are now Market 32 (Central was the original name).
