This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in Allentown between 1925 and 2021, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections. Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.
Notes
- Locations in Whitehall Township and some other suburbs may not be complete, though I have tried to augment city directory listings with newspaper ads wherever possible.
- There seems to have been renumbering on some stretches of Lehigh Street and maybe North 7th Street/MacArthur Road that may have switched the even and odd sides of the street.
- American Stores branches for 1945 were not listed but were identified by reverse address lookup and seem to be substantially complete.
