Select Metro, Lasalle, and Richelieu locations in Montréal, 1954-1983

Last updated on 30 April 2025.

This is a list of addresses for stores assorted with the Lasalle, Metro, Richelieu, and finally Metro-Richelieu co-operative chains in Montréal between 1954 and 1983, compiled from city directories, telephone books, newspapers, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections. Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.

Notes

  • There are very few definitive resources as to locations of Metro/Lasalle/Richelieu affiliates. The stores were not listed by “brand” in city directories and there were only scattered newspaper ads that listed the hundreds of locations. Those are all included here. Because this data is not comparable with the main Montréal store list, I have created a  separate sheet for these stores. I have listed in the notes any locations that overlap with the main list.
  • This list is limited to the Île de Montréal and Îles de Laval. The Rive-Nord (North Shore) and Rive-Sud (South Shore) may be added later.
  • Montréal went through a major street renumbering around 1928. Also English street names have been replaced over the years by French equivalents in many cases. Street names have been given using Francophone-style ordering and spelling (rue = street, chemin = road, ouest = west, est = east) although I have omitted the comma that is often used between the number and street name and I have used the Anglophone approach to capitalization (so the street type is capitalized). Additionally, I have used the post-amalgamation names for the municipalities. This seems to provide the best functionality in the Google Maps links.
