Knoxville Chain Grocery/Supermarket Locations, 1925-2020

This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in Knoxville from 1925-2020, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections.

Notes

• This was one of my earlier projects and I do not currently have copies of the directory pages for several years pre-1970. I may do some rechecking on those in the future.
• Knoxville did a major street renumbering in the early 1950s. I have tried to reconcile old addresses with current ones as closely as possible, but older addresses should be considered approximate where noted.
• The White Stores locations with “Variety store location” indicate the presence of a Whiteway store, probably adjacent to a supermarket. Many of these were folded into the supermarket spaces eventually.
