St Louis Chain Grocery/Supermarket Locations, 1933-1975

This is a list of all known chain grocery addresses in St Louis between 1933 and 1975, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. It is generated through a live Google Spreadsheet so it reflects the latest information I have.

Notes:

  • The Bettendorf and Rapp’s stores were listed under the consolidated name. They may have operated under the two individual banners. I don’t know for sure.
  • Kroger owned the Piggly Wiggly stores in St Louis at least as early as 1933.

Rapp’s operated a store in the General Grant shopping center, in the 8400 block of Watson Road, St. Louis, Missouri. Though the shopping center is now in Webster Groves, at the time Rapp’s was there it was in Marlborough, Missouri.
