Green Bay Chain Grocery/Supermarket Locations, 1925-2004

Last updated on 30 April 2025.

This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in Green Bay between 1925 and 2004 (plus 2019), compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections. Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.

Truely a well done website! I’ve enjoyed looking back through the database again. The improvements are very noticeable.

Thank you for including the Denessen grocery chain in the Green Bay grocery store database. I see that you have included 7 stores for the chain. I did find that there were two more stores that were open but I do not know at this time how long they were open.

There was also one other long running Denissen grocery store that was operated separately by a cousin (Ted) of the original chain owner (Cornelius.)
The store was built in 1903 by Philip Solomon and sold to Ted Denissen in 1914. He made some improvements and the family operated the grocery continuously until the early 1960s. I lived about a half block away in the 1950s and was a regular customer for many years.

I think I forgot to give you the location of the Denissen grocery store in Allouez. It was at 2223 S. Webster, which is now a Quik Trip car wash.
