Albany Area Chain Grocery/Supermarket Locations, 1925-2005

This is a list of all known chain grocery addresses in Albany, Colonie, Menands, and Rensselaer between 1925 and 2005, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. It is generated through a live Google Spreadsheet so it reflects the latest information I have.

Interesting notes:

  • Trading Post/Trading Port are used somewhat interchangeably in the city directories. Trading Port seems to be correct.
  • Merger of Grand Union and Empire in 1958 meant that several former Grand Union locations were brought back into the fold. Grand Union was in and out of Albany several times.

View and download a copy of this location spreadsheet via Google Sheets.

There was an Albany Public Markets on the corner of route 9 and 155 Latham. It was later Toys for Joy and than OfficeMax before being torn down. It is now Fresh Market
