This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in Albany, Colonie, Menands, and Rensselaer between 1925 and 2005, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections. Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.
Interesting notes:
- Trading Post/Trading Port are used somewhat interchangeably in the city directories. Trading Port seems to be correct.
- Merger of Grand Union and Empire in 1958 meant that several former Grand Union locations were brought back into the fold. Grand Union was in and out of Albany several times.
