This is a list of all known chain grocery addresses in Tucson between 1925 and 2022, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. It is generated through a live Google Spreadsheet so it reflects the latest information I have.

Notes:

  • Lucky Stores entered the market around 1964 through the purchse of the Goodman’s chain.
  • American Stores sold off the Alpha Beta stores, which became a new entity called ABCO, in 1984. In 1988, ABCO also acquire the Lucky Stores in Arizona at the time of the Lucky/America Stores merger.
  • Basha’s acquired AJ Bayless in 1993.
  • Smitty’s stores in Tucson were acquired by Smith’s  in1996 and were later absorbed into the Fry’s banner following another acquisition.
