Los Angeles Chain Grocery/Supermarket Locations, 1932-1942

This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in Los Angeles (including some San Fernando Valley locations) between 1932 and 1944, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections. Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.

The communities shown on this page are all located within the current city limits of Los Angeles, including the San Fenando Valley and Wilmington/San Pedro. Some locations currently inside the Los Angeles city limits are also included in the Santa Monica and LA County pages. Due to a lack of comprehensive data sources, there will probably never be a complete location list for Los Angeles in the postawar years here.

I am so suprised that Safeway Stores Inc. was so demolished after Peter McGowan son of Robert McGowan who had done so well for Safeway ( Robert ) that is
his son Peter really screwed Safeway Stores Inc. to the wall, because he had to own a Sports Team, what a total waste. He Ruined a GREAT COMPANY
