Cleveland Chain Grocery/Supermarket Locations, 1930-1974

Last updated on 30 April 2025.

This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in Cleveland between 1930 and 1974, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections. Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.

View and download a copy of this location spreadsheet via Google Sheets.

This list covers only the city of Cleveland. Some suburban locations can be viewed here.

Notes

  • In Cleveland, there are two sets of numbered streets, east and west of the center, unlike in most other cities where the directions are divisions of the same street. So East 20th Street runs parallel to West 20th Street, forty blocks to the east.
  • After Fisher’s merged with Fazio’s and Costa’s, some stores were listed under the “Fisher-Fazio-Costa” name while others were listed as “Fisher Foods.” I am not certain what names the stores actually used at this point.
