This is a list of all known chain grocery addresses in Hartford’s eastern suburbs between 1930 and 1977 compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. It is generated through a live Google Spreadsheet so it reflects the latest information I have.

Notes:
- I have found that the Google Maps links do not work well due to the street names that repeat in so many suburbs; even addresses that are correct and current sometimes display incorrectly. Main Street and Farmington Avenue are particularly problematic. I cannot fix this. I am sorry.
- Two separate chains bearing the “Economy” name operated in Hartford; one became First National and the other became Stop & Shop.
Store tags:
- A&P
- First National/Finast
- Grand Union
- Mott’s
- Shop-Rite
- Stop & Shop

October 2, 2021 at 2:59pmGood listing so far! However, I’ll add to your list. 4 Main Street in East Hartford was Andy’s Supermarket, from 1971 to 2000, then Shaw and now it is a ShopRite! 1150 Burnside Avenue from 1968 to 1999 was Top Notch Supermarket. 307 Main Street after Popular went out, it became a Frank’s. Ellington Road East Hartford had a First National. Not sure of the address. The Food Mart on Main St East Hartford became Greenfield’s as of 1977.
